Über dem Festival

Gitarový festival J. K. Mertza ponúka na svojom 44. ročníku gitarové koncerty špičkových hráčov z deviatich krajín. Dominovať bude klasická gitara, no zaznie aj stará hudbadžez v hudbe Bacha, Brouwera, Godára, Möllera, Rodriga, Savall a mnohých iných.

SIEGERABEND II

One of the concert nights of the Guitar Festival of J. K. Mertz, always belongs to juveniles – current winners of international guitar competitions.

We bring you this year Carlo Curatolo, the winner of 11thInternational Guitar Competition of J. K. Mertz in Bratislava and Chia-Wei Lin, the winner of 17th Silesian Guitar Autumn in Tychy (Poland).

 

The concert is taking place with the support of Italian culture institute in Bratislava.

MELODIEN AUS ANNO DAZUMAL

Jiří Tichota is well-known in Czechoslovak region as one of founders of ensemble Spirituál Kvintet but just some people know him as knowledgeable musicologist, concerned with early music, especially for lute.

On this special night he will share with us some interesting stories and discoveries from his research.

KARAMAZOV PLAYS BACH – GODÁR – BROUWER

Edin Karamazov, guitarist and lutenist from Bosnia and. He became the world-known artist especially thanks to the project of Dowland’s works Songs from the Labyrinth, in which is he accompanying famous Sting on the lute.  This project meant for Sting the first step into the classical music and they both proved that you can present renaissance music without any shame also to pop-music fans.

WINNERS’ NIGHT I

One of the concert nights of the Guitar Festival of J. K. Mertz, always belongs to juveniles.
Society of J. K. Mertz decided once again to reward with special prize gifted young Slovak guitarists (under 16 years), laureates of Slovak guitar competitions for children.
Jakub KARPIŠ, Jakub GUNÁR, Markéta ZELENÁKOVÁ, Martin OBŽERA, Michal PAJTÁŠ a Aneta TURČINOVÁ.
At the end will perform GITARIKA guitar ensemble led by Helena Roglová a Zuzana Bednárová (the Elementary Arts School of Jozef Kresánek).

JURAJ BURIAN JAZZ PROJECT

World-renowned Slovak guitarist Juraj Burian has invited his musical friends - Slovak bass-guitarist Juraj Griglák and Swedish percussionist and composer Johan Svensson. This trio will make a pleasant summer night to all jazz lovers at the charming St. Jan Nepomucký Court, hidden inside of the complex of Primate’s Palace.  The program will consist of own compositions and arrangements prepared specially for this night.

 

HOMMAGE À JOAQUÍN RODRIGO

The opening concert of the 44th Guitar festival of J. K. Mertz will be dedicated to honour of the great Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of his  death.

The leading Slovak guitarist Karol Samuelčík will take us through not only Rodrigo´s music but also through music of his ancestors.

Guitar music lovers can also enjoy the most famous guitar concert - Concerto de Aranjuez with the piano accompaniment of Karin Remencová.

 

ETERNAL DREAM

Young Swede Johannes Möller belongs to special appearances of the present guitar world. He devotes besides classical repertoire also to his own compositions, inspiring himself by Eastern cultures and their music.

He comes to Bratislava for the first time to perform his latest solo project Eternal Dream.

Let yourself to be carried away with his music, intimate atmosphere of Klarisky Church, follow your heart and start to live an eternal dream...

IL FENOMENO

Every century has its musical phenomenon. Phenomenons of past centuries were e.g. Vivaldi, Mozart, Paganini or Liszt. Andrés Segovia was undoubtable the guitar phenomenon of the 20th century.
