Society of J. K. Mertz

The Society of J. K. Mertz was founded in 2008 by people who participated on organizing the festival. The main priority of the society is the organisation and support of the International Guitar Festival of J. K. Mertz and its accompanying events. Apart from that the members are drawn to support the guitar artistry in Slovakia and inform, popularize and offer for wider professional and public knowledge the name of aforementioned Bratislava native, guitarist and composer - J. K. Mertz. In 2009 the society of J. K. Mertz became the organisator of the International Guitar Festival of J. K. Mertz.

prof. Jozef Zsapka

Jozef Zsapka is ranked the top of the Slovak performing art. His concert activities are wide-ranging, he performs in the duo and as a soloist not only at chamber concerts, but also with prominent orchestras.

He is a recognised teacher, music director and organiser of the International Guitar Festival "Johann Kaspar Mertz" - in Bratislava well known event having a long tradition with participation of prominent guitar players from all over the world. He is regularly invited to the international juries of guitar competitions. He has led master classes in Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Thailand, Hungary, Turkey, etc.

The manysided artist acts also as an editor (mainly of those compositions dedicated both to him and to the duo) and as a Professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava and Universidade de Aveiro in Portugal.

Karol Samuelčík

Education: the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (prof. Jozef Zsapka) - graduated with prize of the Rector, he enriched his musical progress during few months in Spain, where he studied with Margarita Escarpa. At present is student of postgraduate study at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (prof. J. Zsapka) and student of Escola superior de la música in Barcelona (Á. Garrobé).
